Location
The capital of Spain, located in the heart of the peninsula and right in the center of the Castilian plain, 646 meters above sea level, has a population of over three million people. A cosmopolitan city, a business center, headquarters for the Public Administration, Government, Spanish Parliament and the home of the Spanish Royal Family, Madrid also plays a major role in both the banking and industrial sectors. Most of its industry is located in the Southern fringe of the city, where important textile, food and metal working factories are clustered.
"Madrileños", proud of their city typically say, "from Madrid to Heaven". Perhaps they are exaggerating "un poquito" but there is no doubt that Madrid is a city of many charms. It is situated at the geographical centre of Spain, at an altitude of 600 meters and enjoys a dry continental climate. In summer, temperatures will exceptionally reach 35º Celsius (95º Fahrenheit) and in the middle of the winter the temperature will drop below freezing some nights. The heat in Madrid is very bearable because the climate is dry.

Culturally, Madrid has world class museums: The Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza, The Royal Palace and The National Archeological Museum. It has over twenty theatres, hundreds of cinemas, a concert hall, modern music, clubs and galleries.

Madrid is also the birthplace of "la movida", the intense night-life in which madrileños actively participate. There are all kinds of clubs where you can socialize, dance, observe and have fun with guaranteed entertainment for night owls.

Madrid is a mixture of century-old traditions and modernism, very well reflected in Pedro Almodovar's films. Many great artists of this century, Miles Davis, Francis Bacon or E. Hemingway have been captivated by Madrid.

The Institute is located in the famous Salamanca district right next to the Retiro Park, the Prado Museum and other famous architectural monuments.

Easily accessible, the building is close to several bus lines and 2 subway lines. It consists of 25 air-conditioned classrooms. All our facilities have been recently renovated, as the school was founded in 1955.

Junior Summer Program in Salamanca (13-16 years)
If you are between 13 and 16 years of age and want to study Spanish and Spanish culture with students your own age from all over the world, this course is for you. It has two parts: an academic program and a program of sports and cultural activities, including disco outings once per week. Activities are organized on a daily basis and all activities are supervised. The course includes accommodation and full board with Spanish families, escorted airport transfers on arrival and departure from Madrid Barajas and all extra-curricular activities.

The Spanish Course

The Spanish course is the most important part of the junior programme. Classes are held daily and homework is always assigned. The teachers are demanding and only Spanish is spoken in the classroom. In three hours daily, students study and practice all aspects of the Spanish language: grammar and composition, vocabulary and conversation. Students who successfully meet the course objectives receive a Diploma upon completion.

Accommodation

Accommodation and food are very important parts of the Spanish experience. Our families are carefully selected and each one has been visited. Students from the program generally share a room. Some host families have children of their own. The families live near the school - 10 to 20 minutes by foot - and students take part in family life. The three main meals of the day are all included. Students receive a packed lunch with sandwiches and fruit on excursion or pool days. Our partner school ensures that the meals are healthy and balanced. It is essential to note any special dietary needs on the registration form.

Activities

The Junior Course includes cultural, sports and many other activities at no extra cost. A different activity is planned for each day except Sunday, including: visits to museums, group events, a day at the swimming pool and excursions and field trips outside Salamanca. Meeting young people from other countries is a rewarding part of the programme, broadening the students' view of the world. The extracurricular activities permit and encourage these contacts. All activities are supervised directly by our partner school.
