Most of the
accommodations are not far from the School, and students can
walk every day 10/15 minutes to school. In other cases, students
should use public transportation for 5/10 minutes. Homestay
/ Family
The families are carefully selected, as are the hotels and
apartments. Do not forget to specify on the registration form
any dietary requirements, allergies, smoker/non-smoker, etc,
as well as your preferences. Staying with families allows
students to practice the language and to become acquainted
with the meals and way of life of Spanish people. The Direct or
of the school, always at the students’ disposal, can
change your family accommodation if the need arises. Homestay/family
accommodation is our most popular accommodation option. It
involves living with a host family, sharing meals and facilities
and practicing your Spanish in a traditional and friendly
environment. Minimum stay: 2 weeks (except for 1 week courses). The
options are:
-
Single or double room.
-
Half-board: breakfast and dinner Monday to Friday
and all meals on weekends.
-
Full-board: breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days per
week.
- BREAKFAST is very light in Spain and it is never a
big meal. It consists of coffee and biscuits/bread.
- LUNCH is the main meal for a lot of Spaniards and it’s
eaten between 13:30 and 15:00, comprised of two
- or three courses.
- DINNER is usually tortilla, cold meats, salads,
sandwiches, etc., and it’s eaten between 20:00 and
22:00.
Student Rooms
Those students who wish to follow a course and do not want to
stay with a family, may be interested in renting a student room.
It’s a private and basic room (bed, table, closet, lamps,
window) in an apartment shared with two to four other people.
Kitchen, living room and bathroom are communal. The people in
the apartment are, in most cases, students from the school.
Students are expected to pay small expenses in the apartment
such as gas, soap, cleaning material etc. Keys will be given
on Sunday afternoon and there will be a daily extra charge for
early arrivals or late departures. We will book it for you and
include it in the invoice. Minimum stay of 2 weeks. We advise
long term students to book the first four weeks and, once in
Spain, extend the renting of the student room. There are double
rooms available on request for two people coming together.
Apartments
Apartments are for those who want to be independent in a studio
for one or two people coming together. The studios are walking
distance from the school and have one or two beds, fully equipped
bathroom and towels, kitchenette with refrigerator and other
services to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable. Minimum
stay of 1 week.
Hostels and Hotels
Estudio de Lenguas can suggest hotels and hostels, with a range
of prices, located in close proximity to the school. We have
been using these hotels for many years and we have special rates
in most of them. We will book the hotel of your choice and include
it in your invoice upon request. Estudio de Lenguas will not
be held responsible for any increases that may arise due to
a change of room or fluctuations of rates during peak or off
season.

Barcelona
Accommodation |
 |
|

Centro de Lenguas,
Barcelona can arrange accommodation in Barcelona to suit the
needs (and pockets) of all students, either with Spanish families,
in University Residences, in apartments or in hotels. We recommend
either bed and breakfast or half-board, although full-board
can normally be arranged on request.
Host Family:
Family accommodation is available throughout the year, with
either a host family or an executive host
family, with the latter offering a greater range of facilities.
Most families live near the school and are rarely more than
20 minutes away by public transport. Very occasionally, a
family may be up to 30 minutes from the school as some of
the most elegant districts of Barcelona are on the edge of
the city.
All host families are carefully selected by our Accommodation
Department and all agree to fulfill the following conditions:
|
|
- To provide students with single rooms (unless a couple
both attending courses, or individuals, request to share),
which are comfortably furnished, have adequate heating and
lighting facilities and a desk or table where students can
work
- Not to accommodate persons of the same nationality or
speaking the same language, unless specifically requested
by the students concerned
- To provide basic laundry facilities and to change bed
linen and towels weekly
- To make a daily bath or shower available
- To provide an adequate continental breakfast and - for
those students who are being accommodated on a half-board
basis - a substantial dinner at night
- To provide students with a door key so that they can let
themselves in and out
- To treat students as family guests and generally behave
in a friendly and hospitable manner
All our host families live in flats, as there are practically
no individual houses in Barcelona. Apartment buildings (both
old and modern) are rarely more than 8 floors high. A typical
flat will have 3 or 4 bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, a dining
room and living room. Some flats have terraces; almost all
of them have balconies.
It is difficult to describe a typical family as there is
such a variety; some are young couples, some have children
still living at home, others - perhaps the majority - have
grown-up children who no longer live at home, but who often
appear for lunch on Sundays! Lunch is usually eaten quite
late - around 2.30 p.m., and dinner is usually at about 9.00
p.m.
Executive host families
We also have a limited number of host families who live in
larger, 'up-market' apartments and who can also offer students
their own private bathroom. These families will also undertake
to do their students' washing and ironing. We therefore classify
them as "Executive Families" and the higher prices
we charge for these families reflect the extra services and
facilities they provide.
|
Shared Apartments
The school has a number of furnished apartments available for
rent which students can share with other students. The normal
minimum period for renting an apartment is 4 weeks, although
shorter rentals can sometimes be arranged on request.
All apartments are centrally located and are therefore approximately
10-20 minutes from the school on foot or by public transport.
Students have their own individual bedroom which, apart from
a bed, contains a desk and a wardrobe. Each apartment also has
a kitchen, bathroom and living room which students share. These
apartments are fully furnished and facilities include a washing
machine and TV. |
 |
Some apartments also have telephones
but these are programmed to accept incoming calls only. Each
student is provided with a set of keys so that they can come
and go when they please.
Students are provided with sheets, blankets and towels, but
they should bring their own beach towels. The apartments are
cleaned once a week and bed linen is also changed weekly.
Deposit
Students are asked to pay the equivalent of two weeks' rent
as a deposit on arrival. This deposit is refunded when the keys
are returned and after the apartment has been checked for loss
or damage. Any loss or damage which is attributed to the student
will be deducted from the deposit before the balance is returned.
Arrival
Students arriving on the Sunday before the course begins should
make their own way to their apartment (unless a transfer has
been requested). When bookings are confirmed we will send
the address of the apartment to the student.
The student must inform the school of travel arrangements
and the estimated time of arrival; this will avoid the person
handing over the keys having to wait in the apartment unnecessarily,
or the student having to wait in the street.
Note
Please note that the school will try to place students of
the same age and sex together in the same apartment where
possible. However, this isn't always possible. If students
do not want to share an apartment with people of different
ages or sex, they should make this very clear on the application
form.
Individual or Family Apartments
We offer students who are staying in Barcelona for
4 weeks or more, the possibility of renting a fully furnished,
self-catering apartment. Most of these are located within
15-20 minutes of the school by public transport.
There are two categories of self-catering apartment available:
- small studio-type apartments suitable for one individual
student or a couple. These studio apartments will normally
have one living space that also serves as the bedroom, with
an American-style kitchen, and a separate bathroom.
- larger two, or three bedroom apartments suitable for families
or groups of students making their reservation together.
These apartments are entirely self-catering, which means
that no meals are provided and students are also responsible
for cleaning.
Deposit
Students will be asked to pay the equivalent of two weeks'
rent as a deposit when they collect the keys to the apartment
on arrival. This deposit is refunded when the keys are returned
and after the apartment has been checked for loss or damage.
Any loss or damage which is attributed to the student will
be deducted from the deposit before the balance is returned.
Student Residences
In July, August and September only, accommodation
is also available in one of two student residences, normally
in double or triple rooms although a limited number of single
rooms are also available. Students can choose bed and breakfast
or half board.
Student residences can be relatively noisy places to stay.
For this reason we recommend that students consider how important
peace and quiet is to them before reserving a place in a residence
which they will be sharing with a large number of young (and
generally noisy) people.

Residence 1:
Colegio Mayor San Jordi
This large University residence is located about 20 minutes
from the school by bus. The residence has the capacity to take
around 180 students. Most rooms contain 2 or 3 beds, although
there are some single rooms available on payment of a supplement.
All bedrooms have their own private bathrooms. Other bathrooms
are located on each floor.
The residence has a recreation lounge with bar and TV and
there is a small gymnasium available for guests free of charge.
A receptionist is on duty 24 hours per day so students are
free to come and go as they please.
Students have access to washing machines and irons and most
rooms have telephones for incoming calls. There are also several
telephones available in the residence from which the students
can make outgoing calls. The residence also has a number of
safe-deposit boxes which students can rent to store their
passport and other valuables securely.
Meals
Students can have either bed and breakfast or half board (which
includes supper). The standard of catering is very reasonable
for this kind of accommodation. The menus are varied and balanced
and both the quality and quantity of food provided is good.
Water is provided with meals while other drinks are available
from a vending machine. Breakfast is from 07.30 to 09.00 (08.00
to 10.00 on Sundays) and dinner from 20.30 to 21.30.
|
 |
Location
The San Jordi residence is situated in a very smart part of
the city. The street in which the residence is situated is both
residential and commercial and has several bars and restaurants.
There are lots of shops in the area including some of the most
exclusive (and expensive!) shops in Barcelona. There is a small
park less than five minutes walk from the residence.
Transportation
The number 14 bus leaves from a stop approximately 3 minutes
from the residence. This goes to Plaza Catalunya (journey
time approx. 15-20 minutes) from where it is a five-minute
walk to the school. A 10-journey bus ticket currently costs
€6.50.
|
Residence 2:
Ciudad de Balaguer Residence
The residence occupies the whole of the first floor and part
of the ground floor of a large, smart apartment building. There
are 15 bedrooms in total, including single rooms, double rooms
and some triple rooms and the capacity of the residence is 26-34.
All of the bedrooms have wardrobe space and tables and 2 of
the bedrooms also have their own private bathrooms. There are
9 bathrooms in total.
The residence also has a large, comfortable TV lounge, a
large dining room, a kitchen, a laundry room and a very large
terrace/garden. The residence, which is normally used to accommodate
female university students is extremely well maintained and
kept very clean.
|
 |
Students have access
to a washing machine, iron, etc. The washing machine functions
with tokens which cost €2 each. Bed linen is changed every
week and towels are changed twice a week. Students are not permitted
to use the kitchen to cook in, but they are allowed to keep
food in the refrigerator. Each student is given a key and is
free to come and go as s/he pleases. There are public telephones
in the residence for students' use and incoming calls.
Meals
Students are normally accommodated on a bed and breakfast
basis, although half board can also be arranged. The menus
are varied and balanced and the quality and quantity of food
provided is very good. Water is provided with meals and other
drinks are available from a machine. Breakfast is from 08.00
to 10.00 and dinner from 20.30 to 22.00.
Location
The residence is in a very smart part of the city. The street
in which the residence is situated is residential and quiet
although there are shops, bars and restaurants a few minutes'
walk away in adjoining streets. Directly opposite the residence
is a riding school where students can learn horse riding skills
(at an extra charge).
Transportation
There are two options for travelling to the school:
- the metro station 'El Putxet' is approximately 5 minutes'
walk from the residence. From there trains go to Plaza Catalunya
(10 minute journey), which is less than five minutes from
the school on foot. A 10-journey ticket currently costs €5.80.
- The number 14 bus leaves from a stop approximately 2 minutes
from the residence. This also goes to Plaza Catalunya (journey
time approx. 25 minutes). A 10-journey bus ticket currently
costs €5.80.
Hostels
Accommodation is also available throughout the year in hostels,
several of which are located near the school. Both single
and shared rooms are available - though shared rooms will
only be provided for students who enrol together.
Meals
Hostels sometimes provide meals for guests but usually this
is not the case.
Prices
Hostels are the most economic alternative to families, shared
apartments or residences, with prices ranging from €25
to €35 per night for a single room without a private
bathroom and without breakfast.
Hotels
Spanish hotels are classified from 1-5 stars. There are very
few one star hotels so the most economic category is usually
a 2-star hotel.
Prices
Prices vary, but a single room in a standard 2-star hotel
with private bathroom and breakfast included, currently costs
from €60 to €120 per night. 3-star hotels with private
bathroom and breakfast cost €120 to €160 per night,
while 4-star hotels start at around €150 per night for
a single room.
Due to significant variations in prices, even for hotels
of the same category, we prefer quoting prices on request
in all cases.

Costa
Rica Accommodation |
 |
|
|
| A key part of our program
is the homestays we offer with selected Costa Rican families
in Heredia. All students are encouraged to participate in this
opportunity, as it provides an invaluable source of Spanish
instruction as well as a wonderful interpersonal experience.
In general, home stays are regarded as the most effective way
to put into practice the Spanish you learn in the classroom.
Living with a family who speaks no English, in combination with
intensive study, provides a wholly integrated exposure to both
the language and the culture. In this way the learning process
is greatly facilitated, as is the speed with which fluency is
acquired. |
 |
 |
Home stays also provide an economical alternative
to hotels, as breakfast, dinner, private room and laundry service
are all included in the price. Probably the most valuable aspect
of the home stay experience, however, is the opportunity to
really get to know a Costa Rican family, making many new friends
and experiencing first-hand the famous Costa Rican warmth and
hospitality! Families are paid from Sunday to Sunday in Sámara,
regardless of whether the student leaves before Sunday.
Therefore, if a student returns early to a family in Heredia the
cost is $16 (with breakfast and dinner) for each
additional night in Heredia. Students in homestay may also stay
in Sámara until Sunday and take the public bus back to San Jose/Heredia
at 8:30am or 3pm. |
| If you prefer not to participate in the homestays we will be
happy to help you make alternative living arrangements, either
in hotels, pensions or furnished apartments: Aparthotel |
|
|
The accommodation would be an apartment-suite
with 1 bedroom and cable T.V.,
telephones with direct lines and internet access, remote
control, living room, dining table, fully equipped kitchen,
irons, ironing boards, private bathrooms with hot water, a
balcony, or even a back yard. If you don't want to eat at
restaurants, you can cook in your apartment that has a fully
equipped kitchen.
This includes a stove, oven, fridge, rice
maker, microwave, coffee
maker, toaster, pots and plates,
blender, table utensils, etc.) Across the street from the hotel
you will find a little supermarket, grocery stores, butchery,
cafeteria with fast foods, and much more! You will find the
peacefulness of a safe, comfortable and fresh environment. You
can easily enjoy the shopping centers, tourism places and
entertainment all around the hotel. There are all types
of restaurants and shopping centers, parks and markets within
walking distance of the apartments and suites. |

- Full-board: breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days per week.
The family will give you three meals a day.
The custom, which you should respect, is to have a light
